What is Express Renewal Service and AutoRenewal Service?

Description

What is Express Renewal?
Express Renewal helps streamline the renewal of SSL certificates with a new way of handling certificate validity and expiration.  You select the service period (1, 2, or 3 years), but upon expiration, you can continue to use the same certificate.

With Express Renewal, you no longer have to reinstall the certificate or generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) for as long as four consecutive years, depending on the certificate you select. Please note that due to industry guidelines, Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates can only be issued for a maximum of two years.

Why are there three dates in my account?
With the Express Renewal service, you now select a service period instead of a certificate period. Therefore, you now have three different dates that are tracked within your account.

Your certificate was issued on: 24-Feb-2011 - This date represents when Symantec approved your order and issued your certificate.

Your next bill date: 23-Feb-2012 - This date represents the next time your service period will come up for renewal. The date is directly tied to the period you selected when ordering the certificate.

Your certificate expires on: 24-Feb-2017 - This date represents when your certificate will expire. You will be asked to order a new certificate three months prior to this date.

What is the AutoRenewal Service?
When you activate the AutoRenewal Service, you automate future renewals for your certificate.

Activation: The AutoRenewal Service ("AutoRenewal") allows you the option to automate the renewal of your Symantec™ SSL Certificate(s) and Norton™ Secured Seal(s) prior to expiration.

If you choose to activate the AutoRenewal Service:

  • You authorize Symantec to automatically charge your credit or debit card without any additional action by you prior to the expiration of your certificate(s) or seal(s).
  • Your certificate(s) or seal(s) will be automatically renewed for the same validity period chosen today at the then-current renewal fee for that validity period (plus applicable taxes).
  • Your credit or debit card information is stored in your Trust Center account to automate future renewals of your certificate(s) or seal(s).

If you own multiple certificates or seals, AutoRenewal can be activated for each certificate or seal either at the time of purchase or from within your Trust Center account.

Cancellation: Once activated, future renewals of your certificate(s) or seal(s) will continue until you deactivate AutoRenewal. You can deactivate AutoRenewal at any time without penalty.

To deactivate the AutoRenewal Service:

  1. Sign in to your Trust Center Account.
  2. From the Quick Actions section click Deactivate AutoRenewal.

Pricing & Pre-billing Notification: When you activate the AutoRenewal Service:

  • Your certificate(s) or seal(s) will be automatically renewed for the same validity period chosen today at the then-current renewal fee for that validity period (plus applicable taxes).
  • You will be sent an email shortly before your certificate(s) or seal(s) expire.
